APPLICATION LETTER (COVER LETTER) WRITING |
||
make sure your application gets noticed |
||
Covering letters, Application letters and e mails are the vital link between your CV and its relevance to a particular vacancy and a further opportunity of making your application more attractive to a recruiter. Never send a CV without an application or covering letter and never make the letter more than a single page. It is no longer acceptable for a cover letter to say simply, "I wish to apply, see attached CV". The letter should spell out in some detail those elements from your CV that make you eminently suitable for the position to which you are applying. In many cases this will involve an expansion on specific relevant points in your CV and a more rounded description of your personal qualities, skill set and experience that is specifically relevant to the role in question. This adds considerable weight to your application. Depending on the nature of the vacancy reasons for applying, reason for leaving your current employer etc may also need to be included.
Application and Covering letters can be pre-purchased in bulk - see above. When you require a letter to be written the advertisement relating to the vacancy should be sent to us preferably using an on line form, the link to which will be given to you when we confirm your order. Covering letters are normally completed within 24 hours and despatched to you by email, any modification required should be emailed back to your specialist as soon as possible as it is often important to submit applications early. Full details of the procedure are provided with your order confirmation.
Speculative Letters
Many HR departments operate "Talent Pools"; these are essentially data bases where suitable but rejected candidates from previous recruitment and speculative applications are held and searched prior to a new vacancy being publicly advertised. It is therefore well worth your details being included in these Talent Pools. The Speculative Application Letter or email accompanying your CV is similar to that described above but with a few important differences. Firstly, it needs to state the type of role in which you are interested and why you want to join the Company in question. Secondly it needs to spell out the 3 or 4 elements from your CV that make you special. These letters / emails should never be the same for each Company, an experienced HR professional will easily recognise "bulk" applications which often are rejected. They should always be sent to a named individual and some research will need to be done to ascertain the appropriate recipient. It is also well worth gaining some insight into the Company concerned to confirm that it is an organisation that can provide the career path or experience that you seek and some synergy exists between their values and your own; this information to be used in explaining why you want to join this particular Company.
Application letters purchased from PerfectCVs can be used to construct speculative letters and the procedure to follow is provided with your order confirmation.
